Litany to a Saint

St. Jude, called Thaddeus,
friend to our Lord Jesus Christ,
and Patron of lost causes,
to you I prayed.

To you I sent petition
in the name of my first born son,
for guidance and for protection
from his sin-scented woman.

I sent petition in his name
to stop the marriage of jagged wills
and mismatched morals
that I saw before him.

I sent petition; you answered.
You gave him a neon cross of blood tests,
an IV-tube stigmata,
and the cancer with a martyr’s name.

St. Jude, called Thaddeus,
bearer of the traitor’s name,
you sent me Pharoah’s tenth plague,
when, to you, I prayed.
